BRIEF: "Visual Self Portrait"
Build a body of work in sketchbook form. You are the subject.
Things you like/Things you don't like/Stuff you collect/Things you do/Thoughts you have/Questions you ask/People you know/Things you say/Things you don't say/Things you buy/Where you live/what you eat/work you do/how you think/Moods you have etc.
Intimate/Personal piece of work. It is design/illustrative/photographic project.

I started off this project by simply just using my drawing techniques whilst I was thinking of other ideas. Combining a mix of typography experimentation that i had previously used in other projects. Although i enjoyed working in this way it didn't leave much room for me to explore my new skills. |
Instead, I combined my skills from the previous 'Magpie' Brief and collected old images and used scrap materials to recreate new images that reflect my lifestyle. |
As the project moved on I did bring back my drawing skills alongside my preferred way of working - which also turned out interesting. |
My inspiration mainly came from designer Michelle Thompson who uses graphic illustration - a range of mixed media, hand drawn skills and digital editing. With this new inspiration I can gather ideas and new skills to help represent my own ideas. When using artist reference it makes it easier to improve on my skills and expand on new ideas. |
As the 'Visual Self Portrait' brief moved on, I found new directions to the project that opened up new methods of working. By including language within my work, I was able to tie in typographic skills, and also take into account size proportions in my designs. |
Working minimalistic is a technique I seemed to have developed during this brief. |

By the end of the brief I was happy with the body of work I have produced, however some pieces hadn't turned out the way I had anticipated. One skill I have developed on mostly though is the commitment to finishing off a piece of work, and trying out different ideas on the next. |
